How we calculate this
How much does a retailer earn with retail media?
Mid-market retailers realistically earn 1 to 3% of their online revenue from retail media once the network is mature, plus €2,500 to €6,000 per physical store per year from in-store screens. A webshop with €25 million in online sales and 30 stores therefore lands somewhere between €325,000 and €930,000 a year. Almost all of it is margin.
Where does 1 to 3% come from?
Large marketplaces earn 5 to 8% of their online sales in advertising. Mid-market retailers in Europe realistically land between 1 and 3% of online revenue after twelve to twenty-four months, depending on category, the share of branded products and traffic. Year one usually sits at the bottom of the range.
In-store: €2,500 to €6,000 per store
Based on two to four screens per store, verified contacts, a realistic fill rate and Benelux digital out-of-home prices. Stores with high footfall land higher; small-format stores lower.
Why compare with net margin?
Media revenue has almost no cost of goods. That is why a small percentage of revenue can equal a big share of profit: €500K in media is the profit of roughly €17M in product sales at a 3% margin.
What it leaves out
Offsite extension, checkout marketing, sponsored products and data products: channels we sell on top of onsite and in-store. And the cost side: we work no cure, no pay, so there is no upfront investment to subtract.
